How bad is it really to have a sandwich w cold cuts? I heard it's ok as long as in moderation?

Shit, you could get listeria from eating salad out of the dole warehouse. I've been craving sandwiches and I just beat the meat up.

USDA says it's extremely rare. If you think about it, how much deli meat have you eaten, So far in your life? Have you gotten listeria from it? Most likely not. I eat it all the time.

My doctor just told me yesterday that "you can't avoid life." Listeria can be in anything (just about) and there's no way to avoid all foods that could be a risk. He said to exercise caution, but to continue living life and that most foods are okay.

I just discovered that I can have Publix subs!!! I just have them toast the meat before making the sandwich. I've eaten three subs in the past 48 hours!!

I eat it all the time and never have gotten listeria.  It's personal preference whether you want to I guess risk listeria  (very slim chance btw). I also eat all nautral un cured and never got it.

Ask your doctor. From my POV it's fine. I microwave until steaming when I eat turkey and hot dogs; if you're at all worried you can do the same for peace of mind. As an aside, your chances of getting listeria are something like 1 in 8000 during pregnancy, while the chance of Down syndrome is 1 in 700.  That's not to downplay how serious listeria is; you should definitely take steps to avoid it. But just to put things in perspective. Good luck.

I got really bad food poisoning from eating cold sliced sandwiches. Now I make sure to warm them in a toaster oven or if I go to subway have them toasted as well.

Listeria is the concern, because it's especially dangerous during pregnancy. For some reaon, people seem to only attach it to lunch meat. Lately, though, I've had to throw away bagged lettuce and hummus, both because they were recalled for Listeria. Weigh your risks, make your own decisions. Everyone worries about different things. If you want to be safe, heat it up.

Not okay in moderation. The problem with lunch meat is it can cause listeria which you're more likely to get while pregnant. It only takes one time to get listeria. If you eat lunch meat, heat it up to the point that it's steaming beforehand.

I heard the bacteria in deli meat itself is harmful to the baby unless it's toasted~ I'm craving subway but I'm so scared of eating it... I don't like toasted subs ☹
