Examinations for birth control?

What is a papsmear? I'm 17 & my grandma freaked out when she learned that I wasn't examined before starting my birth control pills. Should I be concerned, too?
I didn't even know those kind of examinations were a thing.

They used to do them much younger. But unless they have a reason to believe that something is wrong, they don't do a pap until you're 21, even if you're sexually active. I have been on birth control twice, both between the time I was 17-19. I never had a pap. I'm also 20, and now pregnant, and they still won't do a pap until I'm 21. It's totally fine.

Answer

A Pap smear looks for abnormal cells that could be/turn cancerous. An std check is similar in that they swab you. I didn't have either to go on BC! Just a pregnancy test!
