Baby shower?

Has anyone out there not had a baby shower because of religion or superstition? 
I am Jewish and most women in my faith do not have baby showers. I understand why. It would be horrible if something were to happen to the baby and you are stuck with all this stuff. My mother had a stillborn baby before me and she had always said, thank god I didn't have a baby shower. But we can't live life by the 'What Ifs" right?

Its not something done in my country but growing up in Canada us girls from the same culture always have them a week or two after baby is born. We believe its bad luck to have it before baby is born.

I have heard of people having baby showers/welcome party's after the baby is born.

Do what you feel is right and what you feel is in your heart. If you choose not to throw a shower. You can have a meet and greet for when the baby arrives and people could bring gifts then.

Yeah! Some call it like a "sip and see" where you could do something like a brunch where people can bring gifts for the baby and have a nice little meal and they get to see the adorable baby!
