What other options are there?

I'm not pregnant or anything but I am just curious. What other options for pain are there? Besides the epidural?

When I do get pregnant, I want to do it as natural as possible (that might change, lol). But I don't want the epidural.

Doesn't the epidural numb you? I don't want to give birth on my back. But if I get the epidural then I won't be able to stand, right? Sorry for all the questions. I just liked to be prepared and I'm clueless. Lol

There are other IV medications they can give you but in my experience I liked the epidural better. The other meds just make you so "drunk" you still feel the pain you just don't think about it as long. I don't even remember my first actually being born. The second was just an epidural and it was great. I was completely coherent and remember everything.

Being as relaxed as possible, breathing deep through contradictions and closing your eyes. That helped me tremendously. Using essential oils and candles in a dimly lit room, calming music, massage, encouraging words, etc. I plan on having a water birth this time and that's supposed to help a lot, by releasing oxytocin.
There is something called a tens machine that is natural and is said to help with discomfort. I haven't used one myself.
