Baby monitor necessary?

We live in a smaller two bedroom, one level house and I assumed we'd need a baby monitor but now I'm not sure. She'll be with us in our room for 6-12 weeks then in the room right next door. I plan to have her nap in her crib in nursery if possible. So do you think monitors are necessary?

Depends. If you are a heavy sleeper I would say yes. I am an extremely light sleeper and can hear my two year old from his room a few rooms down from mine.

Just make sure it's not one of those where you have to connect to wifi and everything. People can easily hack into those.

Even living in a single level 1500sq/ft home I used a baby monitor maybe twice. When we had people over. Then we moved into a 2b apartment and I have only used the monitor a handful of times, when she was sick, and I had a humidifier on (mind you my daughter is 2) Otherwise they're really not necessary. 
If you lived on a multi level, or your room was on the complete other side of the apartment it might be more useful. But to each their own. 🙂 
I only have the simple monitors as well, no video. I work for an IT company and know how easy it is for people to hack into wifi and watch the video. So it's just my own safety precaution.

I bought one for my first but only used it once! I'm a very light sleeper so I had no problem hearing him!

I could sleep through anything. We also live in a small two bedroom one level house. Baby's room is right next to ours, but I don't trust myself to wake up without one.

It's not exactly necessary, but having one definitely gave me peace of mind.
