Have you ever been in love with 2 people at the same time?

I'm engaged to be married to a wonderful man, but I can't get my first true love out of my head. Him & I met as teenagers (we're in our late-20's now) and had been on/off for a decade. He's been in the military for awhile, but we actually still keep in touch. It's like I can't let go. I know we could never have a successful relationship, but I constantly wonder "what if" and I feel that he'll always have a hold on me. I love him in a different way than I love my fiancé. My fiancé assumes that he's my first true love, and I don't have the heart to tell him otherwise. Has anyone else been in love with 2 different people at the same time?

If you feel this way you shouldn't get married. If you do want to marry the man you are with, you should drop all ties with the other. It's not fair to your fiancé to be done this way. The only way you are going to be able to let the other guy go is just that, YOU HAVE TO LET HIM GO!! please don't hurt your fiance by dragging the other guy along the whole way. Of course you can't let go...you've continued to keep in contact with someone you feel that connection to. In situations like that you either should have cut all ties, or not be marrying anyone yet.

I've been married just shy of 2 years and am 5 months pregnant with our first child. I love him more than I can explain.  Every one in s while I catch myself thinking of my high school sweet heart, and I feel guilty. 2 nights ago I reamed about him,  again. But this time in the dream I was screaming at him all the ways he hurt me, which I hadn't  put much thought into.  We keep in touch. He is engaged now and to a really sweet woman.  I I know we are on the correct paths. I know that he was in my life for all those years for a reason,  but that reason isn't because he is my eternal companion.  My eternal companion is laying next to me snoring while his baby is kicking me lol. But it took me many years to figure this out =) mind you I love my first love,  and always will. It's just not in the same way. I love him for all the great things he brought to my life now,  instead of in the romantic,  eternal way.

I've never been in love with two people at once, but it isn't uncommon or unnatural. It's completely normal. Look in to polyamory. My SO is one as well as a good friend of mine. To them, love is not a finite emotion like it is for me. They can truly love multiple people at once. Check it out - and once you figure things out, talk to your SO about it. You can't change who you are and hiding it might only make it worse.

A girl I used to be best friends with had a HS sweetheart that dumped her for another girl. She had a family friend that she was friends with for 15 years they got married 2 weeks before the guy who dumped her got married (to spite him). They had 3 kids together then she cheated on him with the HS sweetheart for 9 months and the entire time throughout being with the second guy she kept in touch with HS guy and literally talked about him more than her husband it's was disgusting to watch and her. One day I told her husband bc I couldn't take watching a good guy be treated that way. DO NOT get married if your heart isn't 100% for that person. This is a life long commitment you're making and what if you change your mind down the road. You need to tell him how you're feeling and work on your relationship with him before exchanging vows. If you can't let go of guy #1 then maybe try being single til you have gotten over him. It's all in your mind.
