Water Birth?

Question

So I'm a FTM and I really want to have a natural labor. I've been doing research and everything I've read says using a labor tub is helpful during a natural labor. I don't think I would want to give birth in the tub, but I'm considering laboring in a tub. Can anyone share stories or experiences? What did you like and not like about it?

Everyone thinks I'm crazy for wanting a water birth but it's something I really truly want. My boyfriend feels more comfortable in a hospital but he isn't giving birth, I am.

I had a water birth with my daughter. I was he same as you, thought I would just labor in the tub but not deliver. Once I was in there it eased the contractions so much that there was no way I was getting out. The water was warm and I felt comfortable in there. It was also really easy to change positions to stay comfortable. Everyone thinks I am some kind of hippie for having a water birth but I wouldn't have done anything different.

I've had 4 hospital births and two water births and this will be my third.  Labor in and delivering in warm water is amazing and I wouldn't do it any other way... All I can say is get in and go with what u feel... Stay if u like it and get out if u don't:)

I labored in a tub and I would never do it another way. I had an 8 hour labor, not including pushing and I was super relaxed in the tub - did hypnobirthing and was almost asleep between contractions. The only parts of labor I remember as being hard were the parts outside of the tub: driving to the hospital, triage, etc. I also recommend keeping the room dark. We had just a couple of electric tea lights so we could see but all the overhead lights were off and that helped a lot with relaxing. Do it. Seriously I would have gotten an epidural no question if not for the tub.

I spent a couple of hours in labour in the bath and it was great! I only came out because the midwife had to examine me. And as soon as she did, my waters broke, so I wasn't allowed back in. 
I will definitely be asking to do it again for my next one!

My hospital had a jacuzzi tub in my room, and I LOVED laboring in it. I stayed in that thing from 5cm to 8cm (which took about 4 hours I think) and only got out because I felt like I was almost ready, and I ended up needing to try different upright positions to help bring the baby down.

I highly recommend laboring in the water! It was so relaxing and took a lot of pressure off my body. It helped to have my husband pour water over my belly during contractions, and I was so relaxed in between contractions that I was almost falling asleep.

For me, the only down side was trying to get out of the tub and back to the bed without too many contractions in between!

I rented a birthing tub for my home birth but I couldn't even think about getting in. The only position I was comfortable in was on my hands and knees. I'd say have options but don't really focus too much on a plan rather than ideas.
