I think I got royally screwed by hospital billing/insurance. I had my baby on 12/31, and I'm not sure how it works with the new year. I had an out of pocket max of $4,000 last year on an individual plan, and then a max of $8000 family plan starting 1/1, but 1 person in the family cannot go over $4000 as an out of pocket max it that makes sense. I got a hospital bill for $3300 L&D and a OBGYN bill for $3400 as the doctor's bill. Then we had to take my daughter back on 1/4 to go under the bili lights for jaundice, which came to another $3000 and something odd hundred dollars.  Shouldn't I have only had to pay $4000 between MY hospital bill and doctor's bill? Isn't that the point of out of pocket max? I am owing about $10k in hospital and doctor bills.
