Diabetic advice needed

This isn't to do with trying to conceive but I don't know who else to ask. My bf is type 1 diabetic and suspects he may have ketoasodeciosis (or however it's spelt) I've tested his urine and it's showing between 1.6 and 4 on the scale. He won't let me call anyone for advice because he is worried he'll end up in hospital but I don't really know what I'm doing with diabetes etc so could really use some advice on what I should be doing to help him.
