Dogs and babies?

How did everyone get their dog adjusted to the new baby? I'm so afraid my dog will be jealous!

I haven't experienced yet,  no babies,  but a bunch of my friends have.  One specific thing they did while mum and baby still in the hospital, dad brought home a blanket with the baby scent in it and gave it to the dog.  The day they brought the baby home they brought the baby and car seat in,  took baby out,  let dog stiff car seat,  then dad held dog ands mum held baby and let dog sniff baby. They were best friends for almost a year until dog passed. He was only 4 so so young and energetic that's why dad held him do he didn't jump on baby

First off, keep the dog(s) involved. Let them investigate and smell all of the new things brought into the house. When we introduced our big dogs to our little one, I held the baby and my husband held the dogs. Ours know simple commands (down, sit) but we always say "be easy" around the baby and they've been amazing. 
We struggle with tummy time on the floor because the dogs love to kiss and get too excited.. but we are working on it!
Most importantly.. be calm during the introduction! They can feel your excitement/anxiety. And don't leave your pups out.. they are family too!

My boxer Rhodesian mix loves my daughter. Before our daughter was born we met with a dog trainer and he gave us some good tips (bring a hat home from the hospital, still treat her the same, etc). When our dog first met our daughter she was so interested in her and would constantly lick her (which drove me nuts as a ftm) and she would howl when our daughter would cry (it was pretty cute). Now we are almost 9 months in and they are best buddies. It melts my heart seeing their relationship progressing ❤

My almost 3 year old lab does not care for the baby in the house! He just lays in his kennel most of the day sleeping. We still pay him attention and act the same with him so he doesn't get jealous but I just don't think he's interested. He'll try and smell him here and there and I'll approach him with my baby in my arms so he can smell him but he'll smell him and just stare at him lol. When we first brought him home he would cry every time the baby cried. Drove me crazy! But he eventually stopped. Now if he's crying he'll just wake up and stare at us to see what we're doing to the baby when he's crying. My son is only going to be a month old so I'm hoping once the baby can interact more with him, my pup will like him more haha

My 2 dogs were at the kennel while I was at the hospital and when they came home, the baby was in the bedroom. We greeted the dogs like normal and once they calmed down, let them smell one of her hats. Then my husband brought the baby out and let them smell and check her out. It went really well and my LO is a month old now and they haven't shown any aggression or jealousy around her. I never reprimand them when they want to smell or get near her, they are usually just curious about why she's crying.

My Great Dane still isn't use to my daughter and she's 7 months now. He just avoids her as much as he can but since she was born every time she crys he has to come look at her to make sure she's ok or if she crys to long he starts barking and wines till she is quiet again. He loves her but for right now just from a distance

I have a Dalmatian, lab, boxer mix and my girl is crazy. Lol she is an intense dog and very scared of people. She loves kids though! I thought she would be so jealous and just bad, I can honestly say she has settled down since he arrived and loves him so much. We brought her to the sitters for a few nights when he first came home, when she came back she came up and sniffed him like "Yeah and??" Lol. Your dog already knows and probably loves your baby. I bet you will be pleasantly surprised

Sent to onesies for her to smell. One the day after she was born and the other the day before dog came back home. She has always been sweet towards her but after five months it is better than when she was a newborn
