Cloth versus disposable diapers?

I've started doing research into the benefits of cloth diapering but am nervous of just how much extra laundry it creates and the smell it could create. However, I really like the idea of how eco-friendly they are compared to disposable and the major cost difference is significant! What are you all planning on doing/have done? Recommendations?

Currently we use a mixture of both cloth and sposies. Sposies for when we go out and for bed, and cloth the rest of the time. But soon I plan to switch to cloth full time.

We've been using cloth for 8weeks now and I absolutely love it. I hand wash using tide original powder as I don't have a washer yet (just ordered our first set!! 😁) and honestly, it's not that bad at all.

People who don't know anything about cloth, automatically assume it's gross and dirty because of the fact you have to clean poop. But really, you don't even touch it. In fact, I've touched more poop with sposies than I have cloth. Sposies gives us AWFUL blowouts, while cloth contains everything, never had a mess. Also, if baby is breastfed, you don't have to do anything special with the poop as breastfed poop is water soluble, meaning it will dissolve. If baby is formula fed/and or on solids, that's when you have to dump out the poop. Which then you can eaither use a sprayer, use a spatula dedicated for that purpose, or the dunk/swish method in the toilet (probably the only method that could actually be messy).

I highly recommend joining the fb group fluff love & cd science, even if you aren't sure what you want to do yet. It's a fantastic place for all the information you will need and great headstart of what you need know.

Cloth diapers have no smell as long as your wash routine is good. You can use mainstream detergent like Tide and Gain as long as there isn't added fabric softener. :) go to fluffloveuniversity.com and they will customize a wash routine for you based on your water hardness, washer settings, and detergent preference. :)

Cloth all the way.   This is what I have so far, plus 1 more I just ordered.  Once it comes in I will have 22 covers and 50+ inserts :) it's quite addicting.  I'm sure I will buy about this many more at least, lol.

You need to find out if you have very soft water or hard water. If you have soft water, you'll have to add a little borax to the wash. Also if you have well water or very high mineral content, you may end up having to "strip" your diapers alot.
I was all about the cloth diapers, but our water quality simply won't allow it :(

you'll have to do 1-3 loads of laundry per week. Make sure to have an OPEN hamper with a wet bag for ventilation. This may sound counter productive, but it will help avoid the dreaded "barnyard" stink. If the smell bothers you, keep the hamper just outside the door either in your backyard or just outside in your garage.

My friend cloth diapers & has taught me alot of what I needed to know.

If your diapers stink, you have a bad wash routine. ALWAYS do a prerinse cycle first, then wash it on the heaviest cycle possible. Then dry them in the dryer (yes they'll be fine, the sun can damage the pul fabric). Also don't use the fancy detergents, regular tide or tide HE is best. Alot of the "natural" ones don't really do any real cleaning at all.

Planning to do cloth primarily, with bamboo disposies for travel/out of the house. From what I researched and saw in stores, I think I'm leaning toward best bottoms and funky fluff brands. I wasn't born in the US and my mom used cloth with me, but my sis was born here and used only disposables bc she was working full time w 2 kids.. my mom said I never had diaper rashes and potty trained much more easily/earlier, didn't really have blowouts, and she just machine washed the diapers every other day, hung to dry.

We're going to be using biodegradable ones for the first week cos I reckon we'll be too knackered to do much washing then going onto Bambino Mio nappies as you can get a package from birth to potty training, including liners, outers, even a nappy bucket for around £160 brand new.

I love my cloth diapers! Just started 2 weeks ago, we used newborn disposable diapers but after he grew out of those I bought cloth diapers. The extra laundry really isn't that bad and I don't notice a smell. Plus they make some really cute cloth diapers now 😋

I work in childcare an sometimes have children with cloth nappies, am I know it's horrid to say but one child you can never tell he always smells clean etc an he is able to walk fine the other little one has a really strong smell an is horrible to comfort as it makes me sick been pregnant to be never walks properly always has sores an other parents notice, I know his mum buys cheaper ones where as the other ones are a little more expensive but there worth it xx

With cloth diapers I only had one extra load a week to do and even then I just added their clothes to make it a full load. So it evened out to zero extra laundry. My power and water bills went up by a dollar each, 20$ in tide lasts me 3 months.

It doesn't create much more laundry as long as you get a big enough stash and don't have to wash every day. The baby itself makes more laundry than the cloth diapers do. I swear we are constantly washing something of hers because she spit up or peed on it.
