The phlebotomist at my obgyns office beat my veins up today it hurts close my right arm. Should I complain when I go into my first appointment?

I always ask for butterfly needles. I have small veins that tend to roll, and I've been beat up enough by people who think they are good enough to use a "big girl needle" that I generally tell them straight out to either use the butterfly or find me the oldest, most experienced blood draw person!

Ouch I'd say something just so you don't get the same lady again. I have very small deep set veins that don't surface very well. I point out the vein every time because there's literally only one that you can even get a butterfly into. Forget the regular needle. If they don't listen I tell them they aren't getting blood. Otherwise my arms look like that. I've actually had to have my blood drawn from someone in the peds department when I've gone to the ER.

Don't complain, they had to take your blood so they were just doing their job. Sometimes it hurts more than other times!
Next time, make sure you are very well hydrated. That will plump your veins up so they're easy to get to. Also, keep yourself really warm whenever you know you're going to have blood drawn, wear lots of layers! Being warm allows your veins to rise to the surface of your skin. When you're cold, your veins constrict and retreat to the core of your arms/legs/body to keep warm.
For now, ice your arms if you need to. Put some lavender essential oil on there if you have any, and/or take some ibuprofen and go to bed :)

So I just want to point out that the reason some people won't go to "the vein they always use" is because continuing to use the same vein frequently will eventually make that vein unusable.

It's not always the techs fault. I had horrible bruises in both elbows and the back of both my hands and down one of my forearms all cuz I was dehydrated and having a miscarriage. Try drinking a whole bunch of water next time but when you have your next tests ask them for a small needle because you bruise badly. It's what I do. I also have a hot bath with Epsom salt and soak my arms afterwards too.
