HELP! Birth control tips?

I've been wanting to start taking birth control bc for one my periods are getting really heavy and I've been have really bad cramps but I'm scared of some of the side affects. Any tips on what kind I should use? Or any that made you or a family member really sick ?

Birth control is so personal. I took the combined pill and ended up in the hospital as I suffer with migraines which increases the risk of stroke on combined. I then did the mini pill which is progesterone only. This one was good but I would have periods randomly and for long periods of time. The best one for me was the implant. It didn't hurt going into my arm and lasts 3 years. It's progesterone only therefore did not increase my risk of stroke or blood clots. I say do a lot of research and give each one you go on a chance to work.
