Inducing at 41 weeks?

Question

Is it reasonable to just go ahead and plan for induction if I go a week over? I'm torn. I really want 0 medication, and I get that this hinders that. I've also been watching the business of being born and the follow up on it, and I know that its good to wait. But the % that still births rise after 41 weeks scares me so badly, I don't know if I could let myself go anywhere near 42 weeks. I'm a first time mom and am expecting to go a little over already. Do you think 41 weeks is reasonable if I haven't gone by myself, and things aren't progressing at all? I would like opinions!

Just so you know, human gestation is 41 and 1/7 weeks. So going 41 weeks is not late. If your baby is doing good then I'd just let it roll

Find acupuncture and start going for labor around 37 weeks and if you get to 40 they can help with induction

I had my first baby in 2013. My daughter was due December 13th but nothing happened. I went in for a planned induction on December 23rd at the hospital. I basically waisted a day of being given pitocin... My OB finally broke my water around 8 pm. Then actual contractions started. I tapped out and got an epidural (the contractions were strong). I didn't have my daughter tell 12:10 am on December 24th.

The up side to it is it's planned, you don't have to worry about getting to the hospital..or being alone. I did it because I was afraid of a still birth...I knew my daughter was well done. Which she was! 9lbs and 2oz...
The down sides are you will be stuck in bed because they have to monitor you. The contractions are stronger if they are using pitocin... 
But I would do it all over again.

I went to 42w0d with my first. My dr wanted an induction by 40 weeks and I refused so I had twice weekly appts and NST monitoring. He scheduled my induction for 42w1d but I went in labor the day before

If you're that far along, you will be seeing your doctor very regularly. With my first child, I hit 40 weeks and still nothing. I wasn't dialating, he wasn't dropping, nothing. At that point, they started to have me going to the doctor twice a week, a couple times they had me sit with a fetal monitor, I had an ultrasound to ensure there was sufficient amniotic fluid, and at 8 days beyond my due date, they decided if I wanted to be induced the next day (as my doctor would be the one at the hospital that day), I could. Or since everything was still ok, I could wait. I went for the induction and had him 9 days past due. Point is, if you're that far along, they will be monitoring you so well that nothing will happen to your baby. If they saw the slightest anything that would indicate things had gone on too long they will intervene with induction. And besides, you could go into labor naturally before you ever have to worry about this, don't think about scheduling an induction now.

It depends on what your care provider and you feel comfortable with. There are many things you can try like acupuncture, membrane sweeping, etc before even going for an induction. My first was a hospital birth and induction. I hated the induction, so with my second I went a totally different route. I had a homebirth and went to 41 weeks 6 days. It felt like an eternity, but everything was great. You can opt for NST and sono too for peace of mind.

I scheduled induction at 40 weeks because I had such awful pelvic pressure and contractions. I up having my son 5 days early. Hopefully you go into labor naturally, but planning on being induced at 41 weeks is definitely ok. The still rising freaks me out too

My doctor won't let her patients go past a week over due. I was induced 5 days after my due date with my first. Guessing it will be the same with this one. It's definitely not unreasonable to be induced at 41 weeks. The baby is full term by then, but I understand how it would mess up your med free plan. I say go for it and have it be the only medicine you get.

I have a induction set for 39 weeks due to the fact my BF travels for work I want to have him here. With my luck I'll go into labor at 38 weeks
