FTM Breastfeeding?

Question

I want to breastfeed so badly, I have done my research on everything else pregnancy related but I have not read up on breastfeeding. I know that breast is best and I really want to give it my best shot but can any of you breastfeeding mommies tell me about it? I'm 39+1 weeks and baby will be coming soon. I'd love to know as much info as possible. How long do you feed for, which side, when should you pump? Etc sorry about some of the stupid questions I just really want information.

If you're breastfeeding , they'll have a lactation consultant come in and help you out .. Also if needed , after leaving the hospital you can also contact one and have them come help you but personally , breastfeeding was very hard for me .. Sadly it didn't work out ;( I absolutely loved it for the time that I did do it , it was amazing to me and I was heartbroken making the decision that I had to stop but they will give you alot of information and stuff while your hospital stay after giving birth and don't be afraid to ask them questions and get as much help as you need , take advantage of it !!! They're there to help you , with anything :)

I didn't breastfeed my new lil man, but I did breastfeed my older son. There should be a lactation consultant at your hospital that will come in and help you if needed. The nurses at my hospital were also great at helping me. They told me that it should be about 15min per side.

Try looking for local breastfeeding groups in you area. My sort actually just opened up a clinic with one on one consultations! Try La Leche League online to find any near by classes or groups. Or even on Facebook! You need a support group because most women get discourage and give me soon after birth. It's not easy but it's doable! Also, see if the hospital where you are delivering can provide you with a lactation nurse soon after birth to insure proper latching. Some hospitals even have lactation clinics

Recommended is at least 6 months but they encourage breast feeding for the first year.

Go to le leche meetings in your area the hospital should have information on your local group and you can get started and start going now they are an awesome resource for support and information as well as helping making sure the latching is correct and such.

I didn't get the lactation support I needed in time and got an infection fast from babies improper latch.. Which led us to exclusively pumping at only 2 weeks old. Which is fine.. Because I like knowing what she gets and I'll go back to work soon anyways. I pump every 3-4 hours and just once overnight. I have a tooooooonnnn of milk stored and love it!!

Just like everyone is saying, the Lactaction Consultant is at the hospital, make sure you see her a few times before you leave. She's God's gift to this earth. About 2-5 days after baby is born your "milk will come in", for me this was excrutiating. I had no guidance with my first and my mom had no BF experience so I didn't know what was going on. I became so full of new milk (engorged) that it felt like glass shards in my breasts and my nipples got so flat baby wasn't able to latch on and feed. Thankfully I got to a consultant before I got an infection we couldn't handle. But I'm just telling you this so you know what to look for and you can avoid the shock or problems with engorgement. Make sure you've got a good breast pump to get all that extra milk out until your body regulates. Check out KellyMom.com for good BF info. I breastfed my first for 11.5 months until I got a herniated disc in my back and had to be on medication that he couldn't get via my milk. One of the best, most rewarding 11 months of my life. So excited to be breastfeeding agin soon to our little girl this time!

To start it's 15 mins each breast sometimes baby may stop after one side always make sure when he is ready to feed again you start on the opposite nipple....and make sure you have nipple cream that should be your best friend because u don't want your nipples to dry out because they will Crack and it's no joke....2nd make sure baby is always latched completely (lactation coach or nurse will show u) if not it will hurt....3rd it's recommended once milk supply began to come in which is usually day 2 or 3 everyone is different that you feed baby 1st and then pump after to help your milk supply and there is no thing as producing too much milk...because you will fill your freezer and think wow that's a lot but when you introduce baby to bottle it will disappear fast
