I was sent to the hospital early 2/9 for an induction straight from my appointment for reduced fetal movement, low fluid, and not enough variability in her heart rate. I was 80% effaced, -2 station, and a fingertip dilated. It took a while to be admitted because the hospital was full but eventually I was and was given a dose of cervadil for 12 hours at 1PM. I started getting some more contractions but they felt similar to the prodromal labor I had already been experiencing for weeks. Contractions got very intense around 9PM and I moaned my way through it. I hadn't slept much the night before so I wasn't in a good place to be up all night with intense and painful contractions. At this point they were 2-3 minutes apart and lasting for 60-90 seconds. Finally at 1AM they removed the cervadil and I was 2.5 cm dilated with no other changes. I continued to labor painfully and was offered morphine to allow me to sleep which I accepted. It didn't help at all and I realized I was going to be up all night, so I caved and asked for an epidural. I got that around 4:30 and immediately felt much much better. This slowed my contractions down to 5 minutes apart. So, at 6AM they woke me up to start pitocin, which they gradually ramped up throughout the day. I was feeling my contractions but they were bearable now. The worst part was that the epi kept wearing off on one side because I could only lay in very specific ways or baby's heart rate dipped. At one point her heart rate halved to 55-65 and I was about 2 minutes away from a c-section. However we got her stabilized eventually with position changes (though still not enough variability in her heart rate) and I kept at it. My vitals also dropped here and there throughout but they were able to stabilize me with oxygen. My waters broke at some point during the day on their own. Around 5PM the doctor came to check me and I was 10cm! She removed the rest of the bag which was slipping out and I was at a +1 station. A little while later the nurse got me ready for a trial push which went perfectly so she has me keep them up with my contractions. If I pushed too many times babies HR would drop dangerously so I had to be careful and kept getting oxygen throughout. I pushed for 30 minutes and was making good progress and finally felt the urge to push. Another 30 minutes and she came out! I did it! It was awesome. I lost two liters of blood right after birth and had three internal tears as well as a hematoma on my perineum. It's a bit rough of a recovery but I'm so proud of my body and my daughter for getting through it!
