Early appearance ...

Dierdre
Woke up 2/9 at 8:20 am thinking I had to pee. Lo and behold, I was laying in a puddle because my water broke. Panicking since I was only 35w1d, I called my OBGYN who told me to go to the hospital. Since I had NOTHING ready (my original plan was to use this week to get everything sorted), I didn't get to the hospital until about 9:20 am. I was only 0.5cm dilated at that point but was admitted by 10 am. I didn't feel my contractions until about 3pm and then we were off to the races. I got Nubain at 6pm and then an epidural at 7:30pm. At this point I'm 6cm and I can tell we are almost there. At about 8:30pm, I'm having to do everything in my power not to push. Luckily, my Dr was close. She walked in the door at around 8:50pm and then my baby girl was on my chest 9:04pm. Since she was early, she had some respiratory issues and her oxygen was low (she came out purple). They have her meds to counteract the Nubain and put her on oxygen and she perked right up. She's still in the NICU and could be there for 2 weeks depending on her appetite and respiratory system. We've been doing a lot of kangaroo care and I really think it's helping. My milk still hasn't come in but the lactation consultants and I are confident it will come in soon as long as I keep pumping regularly (I'm doing so every 2 hours). She's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and I can't wait until we can all go home together.
