Heart shaped Uterus!?

Question

The man who did my sonogram said I have a heart shaped uterus. My friends laugh and say "of course you do" (I'm an artist and influencer focusing on self love) Jokes aside, do any of you have this? And how does it affect you?

It's not a bad thing, only a different shape. The only risk is that your baby can be bottom down in stead of head down in the end because of the shape and it is more comfy for the baby.

My family has a history of baby's born that way (me included) so that's my biggest fear. I would prefer this over a condition that could affect getting pregnant though so yes, it sucks, but don't focus on the negative just do research and talk about it with your doctor. I have a heart shaped uterus! We were scared at first (found out at 8 weeks pregnant with first) after googling it. Don't google about it. But the pregnancy has been fine (18 weeks). Drs have told us like another girl had said the baby often lays funny which leads to a lot of breech babies, which leads to a lot of c sections. Sometimes baby will come a couple weeks early because the septate of the heart shape doesn't leave them as much room as they'd like. My baby implanted on the left horn but I feel him/her kicking on my right side so the septate must've been pushed aside. If anything this has given us the chance to get ultrasounds at the OBs more often because everyone wants to see it lol. Have no fear 😍🌟we are special!

Ugh I'm sorry they told you that...I was told around 7wks I had a heart shaped uterus (bicornuate uterus) only to cause me so much worry and stress the first trimester when really there is nothing they can do for you while you're pregnant. Typically with a heart shaped uterus you can go to term with your baby but you most likely will need a c section due to baby being breech. Unfortunately pre term labor is something to watch for as well as still birth and a late mis carriage- but that depends on the severity of the heart shape... But, it can not truly be diagnosed while pregnant... Your uterus shape changes when you're pregnant so it's hard to really diagnosis it.... After you have your baby and your uterus goes back to normal I would ask the dr for either a sonogram or a MRI to confirm or rule it out. I did have a sono at 16wks with a high risk dr and he pretty much ruled it out but again you can't really tell- he told me I should have had a scan done with a high risk as soon as they told me about it for a better idea before the uterus gets to big and stretched out - I would ask your OB for a second opinion and if it's true a heart shaped you would be better off with a high risk dr- they wil check your cervix more often and monitor you and baby much more then at a regular OB. I was told I had a double uterus (I have a double vagina and double cervix as well). My last pregnancy went off with absolutely no issues, I just had to have a c section because baby was head up. When they did the c section, I was told it actually looks more like Mickey Mouse ears lol. Contrary to what the OB (who is a man and never experienced ovulation😒) told me, I know when I ovulate because it feels like a damned ping pong ball going through me. I know my uteruses are partly joined somewhere because of this. If they weren't (and I thought it wasn't possible to be pregnant because of the side I ovulated on) I wouldn't be pregnant this time. I was pregnant in the left last time, and in the right this time, which was where I ovulated from last. With the double vagina, the left hand one is sort of the "default" side when hubs and I have sex. That's why I didn't think I'd possibly get pregnant that last month, and surprise surprise, here I am at 27.3 lol.

It depends on severity. You could just have a septate uterus, or be completely split. I have this, and it's fairly severe but everything has been fine. There are a few different risks though, depending where you are in your pregnancy.

When they use the specific term "heart shaped", that generally refers to an arcuate uterus-which is not a problem.  Problems start to arise when you have a subseptate, septate, bicornuate uterus or worse.
