Waxing "down there"

Hey I was wondering if anyone has any experience waxing around their lady bits....themselves. Like how bad of an idea would it be if I just bought a waxing kit from target and went for it? I'm not against just paying to have it done, but I don't really trust any of the places directly near me and I know myself I'm never going to get around to it if I have to drive somewhere lol.
