Dog dry skin help!

Hi I know this is not a dog website but my little girl has major dry skin and environmental allergies and recently she's been biting so much she's starting to bleed, poor baby. My vet prescribed stuff for her ears but brushed off the dry skin and allergies. Does anyone have a situation similar to this? I'm hoping for home/natural remedies, or even any medicated ointment I can ask my vet for since he didn't seem to think it was important. I appreciate your help.
