Automatic Admission

Ok glow, how do we feel about colleges with automatic admission? It was mentioned on another post and now I'm interested in your thoughts.

I'm not sure what it's like in other states or countries, but in Texas public universities have this thing called automatic admission. If you're in high school, and you graduate in the top 10% of your class (it's top 7% for University of Texas and Texas A&M), you can apply to one of these public univeristies and you are automatically admitted. Test scores, letters of recommendation, and essays don't matter. Just your class rank/GPA.

Do you think this is fair? Is it good for students?

Sorry my poll options suck. I'm not sure how to phrase them 😐

Also note: for homeschooled students and schools that don't do rankings, I think there is just a GPA requirement, no class percentage, but I'm not certain.
