Baby name etiquette??

My sister just got pregnant and we are all really happy for her...but my husband and I have been SO excited about one name for our future daughter, who has yet to be conceived yet. Do you think it's dumb to ask my sister to refrain from using that name for her own kid?

Nope! Although I'd take a passive approach and say, "Have you thought of names? I'm so excited for you! [Name] is my absolute favorite, and I've always dreamt of having a little [name]. I can't wait for that day to come. It'll be our first born's name. Do you have a name like that?"

What is the name? I think you should talk to her about it and tell her you were planning on naming your future child that.

No I dont think its dumb. You liked the name first and there are plenty of other names to choose from. Your sister really shouldn't mind.

I think you should tell her and be very clear that you olan to use that name and it would be extremely upsetting if they chose to use it and you were no longer able to.

This actually happened to me. They used the name anyway. It literally felt like i had lost a child. My husband and I had been dreaming of a family for years and couldnt get pregnant. We named our future children and then his sister came alond and knowingly used one of our names!! I cried for 4 days and still have not called the baby by its real name.

It sounds stupid and juvenile but it was treacherously heartbreaking.

Not at all! My sister in law asked me what names I was thinking about because she didn't want us to have the same names in mind (I'm pregnant, and they have been talking about having kids).

Thats why i dont really share names with people just because they will go behind your back and use it but you should say something to ya sister
