Why do so many people

Look down and belittle stay at home moms? It's sad.

Probably for the exact same reasons so many SAHM's look down on working moms. This is an argument you can't win no mtter which side you're on - best to just ignore it.

I quit my job when I got pregnant so I can be a stay at home mom. I've not been looked down on, that I know of, but both of our families just assume that we have no money. We do have less than before, but we are totally fine. Our bills are paid, we don't do without anything we need and occasionally we still go out and do something fun, just not as often as before. It's not even much of a sacrifice bug it's one that we were both willing to make.

There's always been a war between working moms and stay at home moms. I say do what you want and what you think is best for your family.

I find a lot of stay-at-home mothers to be just as belittling to working mothers. "I wouldn't want some stranger raising my child" etc. I think everyone should just do what's right for them, and not worry about everyone else.

Personally, I haven't gotten those comments yet. Quite the opposite, a lot of people are telling me "if you can, stay home!"  Hubby and I have decided that if I need the time away I will only work casual/part-time which my boss has said they will try and make that work.

I'm jealous I wish u could afford to be a stay at home mom. My husband keeps joking he's going to be a stay at home dad because I make more money. That will never happen.  If anyone gets to stay home it's me lol

I think interpretation can be off too! "I wouldn't want a stranger to raise MY child" does not mean YOUR child 😊 People tend to take things very personally, especially when it comes to raising kids.

I am a stay at home Mom, and my son is mildly Autistic. I would not want a stranger raising my son...but do what is best for you and yours!

Our jobs are hard as hell! My mil (she is a curriculum director for our local schools, been a teacher, and assistant principal ) was like that at first but now she sees how smart our kids are for their age. Plus our one child has life threatening food allergies and probably will need to be home schooled anyway.

I live in San Diego. I don't feel like this at all. In fact I get more "Ooohhhh, Really?" reactions when I say I'm going back to work after Baby comes.  A lot of moms here do what they can to stay home as much as possible. And a lot of moms go back to work too and that's not really frowned upon either!

I have no idea. My family is happy that I stay at home to raise my babies. Childcare in my area would cost more than my income of I was working. $45-60 per day, per child....for two kids. My oldest is I'm school but would need extended care which costs the same as daycare even though its only for an extra hour at the school each day! I was working two jobs, at minimum wage, here its 11.75an hour. Literally, I worked all week 5/days, 7am-4pm and made 300 after taxes. Just childcare for my kid in school would have cost me $250. Plus I worked a second job at nights on weekends and that still wouldn't cover childcare costs! That's why I stay home. I don't get child support either. My oldest is a result of sexual assault when I was a teen and her father gave up his parental rights to avoid jail time. My other daughter is with me half the time and her dad half the time. I don't qualify for subsidized childcare and I don't get child support from him as we are both caring for her equally. Its honestly inc difficult. I had to quit my jobs because it was too physically demanding for me. Otherwise I would have kept working because Im so poor. Now I work under the table and bring my little one with me. But its enough to get by for now. I have enough savings to live off of for the first year my new baby will be born, after that, I have to find a new arrangement.
