My bf gets cold sores every few months. Well one day we were messing around and he gave me oral. Next day he said he thinks he is getting a cold sore. A week later I am completely broke out down there. Freaking out go to the er they said you have hsv1. Cold sore. Apparently you can transmit it down there. That was 2 yeara ago. Haven't had an outbreak sense.

They are herpes. They are not just from oral sex. In fact I'd wager that's one of the least likely causes.

It's a form of herpes but it is curable and isn't caused by sex. I have only gotten cold sores from the weather changing and I had a cold.

They can be caused by that. Sharing something that touches the mouth with anyone that gets cold sores... Can spread it to you as well.  It is herpes. But a casual spread of them.

I always get cold sores. Always have since I was in elementary school, so no they are not only caused by oral. They are just a strain of herpes. My husband has never had one and we have been together over 5 years.

They are the from the same virus, coldsores are generally around the mouth and herpes on the genitals. Can transfer the virus from the mouth to genitals and vice versa. Once the virus is there there is no getting rid of it which is why most people get reoccurring episodes, however some people can have only one coldsore tier whole lives. But they will still have the virus
