How much is everyone paying per week? Or is it better to be stay at home moms if you have that choice?

I've heard of people starting their own in home day cares when it's close to a wash for them to work and pay for childcare, but some things to consider.  I wouldn't only subtract the cost from your paycheck when analyzing it, I'd split it and look at both you and the dads take home after daycare. Day care is allowing him to work too, it's not only your cost to bear. I'd also consider what kind of work you do- is it the sort of job where 5 years down the road you'd be better off sticking around now even if it felt like a wash or could you jump back in making the same as if you had stayed? Kids aren't little forever and when they start school, day care gets cheaper. Plus that's 5 more years of work history, employer provided retirement contributions and maybe your insurance plan is better. 5 years off the labor market for me would be a career killer and the insurance through my work is better than husbands... Plus if he goes back to school il be the only income, so I have to work. And sometimes bad things happen like divorce or death and I need to be able to support myself at a minimum.

I live in Southern CA and infant daycare here is about 1200-1800 per month.  We'll be paying $2500 a month for 2 kids until my son goes to Kindergarten in two years.  Money will be tight.

I talked with an at home daycare provider today, she said a new born is $35 a day, 10 months to 2 years $30 and older are $28. I think that's pretty average for my area, Washington State. I'm sure it varies for different areas, and it depends to on how much you make now compared to what you would pay. A little sad so many people have to stress about the decision, were discussing it right now too. Good luck mama. :)

We have a two year old, so with her and a newborn we are looking at close to $500/week for childcare. It's sooooo not great, and it seems like a waste for me to work, however, both my job and my husbands job offers daycare reimbursement of up to $10k total. Won't cover it all, but makes it a little better. Plus, once newborn is 6 months old we can take baby to my two year olds current daycare, and they are less expensive, and cover diapers and all meals/snacks.

I quit my job to come back home to be with my now two year old. My boyfriend and I just couldn't afford the money it was taking for gas, food, baby needs, and daycare. After my hours were cut at my old job I decided it was more beneficial for me to be home. With me being pregnant again there is just no way we could afford the price of a toddler and newborn for childcare.

In South Florida where I live, the ones I've called range from 180-250 a week.

I live in western MA so not as pricey as near Boston.  We are looking at around 800-1000 a month. But I still take home a decent amount after that and I carry the health care. My hubbys job offers it as well but mine is better.

I wish I could be a stay at home mom but it just wont work for us!

I live in Alabama and my son is now 3 and has been in daycare since he was 8 weeks old the cost of daycare starting out was 170 a week or 738 a month as he's gotten older and now he's potty trained its gone down to 140 a week or 595 a month . its expensive . I had to work because I was a single parent so he has to go to daycare when  this baby comes in august both my children are going to stay home with me so we won't have to worry about a huge expense I spoke with the director of my sons childcare and if I had both kids in daycare we would be paying 500 a month for my son and 738 a month for the infant and we don't have 1200 dollars to fork out for daycare

I'm very lucky! Small town in Minnesota and I paid $100/week for infant which included her formula and now that my daughter is 2, I pay $90/week!!!
