My baby has gastroschesis, does anyone's baby have this too?

Our baby has gastroschesis, wondering if anyone else's baby was diagnosed with this as wel (where the intestines grow outside the belly). We need to do emergency surgery on him once he's born.

My daughter had an omphalocele(it had a covering). I can say having a medical team that was very open and upfront about the process was very helpful to me. She was expected to be 3lbs 3 oz, a minimum hospital stay of 6 weeks, and projected to have several surgeries ahead of her. She was actually 8 lbs 15 oz, had 1 surgery to put it all back in when she was two days old, and stayed for only 6 weeks. She's now 11 and will be 12 in July and healthy happy kid. Every child and circumstance is different and I'm here if you just want to talk it out.

I was a PICU RN for years. Just make sure you're delivering at a hospital with a good NICU and lots of volume of peds surgery. You can expect to stay in the NICU for at least 6-8 weeks. Many babies bed up with some feeding difficulties, but end up doing well! just make sure you feel good about your hospital and surgeons. Look into resources now for where you can stay while baby in NICU-- sleep rooms, Ronald McDonald house, etc.  you'll be in my thoughts!
