Selfish or..?

We've decided that when our daughter is born that only my SO and my mother would be in the room. I don't want his mother in the room because she makes me very uncomfortable. We've also decided to not tell ANYONE (except the people who will be in the delivery room with me) that I've gone into labor or that she's been born until I have time to sign all the paper work and take a shower. I feel like since I'm the mother and my SO agrees with my decision that I'm not being selfish, but I just want opinions.

Personally we will be telling my finances parents when I go into labour as well as my own, but we will be the only 2 in the delivery room. You decision isn't selfish but just know that your SO's parents may be a little hurt. But at the end of the day it's your choice.

Is that what you want? Is your SO being supportive of what you want? Then who the heck cares what anyone else thinks or wants! Your baby, your vagina, your final decision.

Nope, sounds like a good plan to me! I'm not telling anyone I'm in labor except my 2 brothers, my dad, and my best friend. Oh, and MAYBE the father of my baby lol. Other people are too nosey and would end up coming to the hospital while I'm still in labor before the baby is even born. I don't need an audience or 10 people in the waiting room waiting to bust in and see the 15 min old baby and breathe all over him and want to hold him. No thanks.

I think you should do what you want to do. The ones you want there will be there, and I don't blame you for wanting to wait to see people till you've had a chance to relax and shower. So for people calling you selfish for that, are close minded and rude. I wish I did that with my first..

It will only be my husband and I. I wouldn't feel right having my mum but not my husbands. Then again our family dynamic is probably different and I have amazing inlaws. Also unless it's necessary we won't be telling anyone until our babies are born.

Sign what paperwork? The birth certificate and stuff? I didn't do that for two days. But it's whatever you want. But just careful, if you suddenly go off the grid it won't be hard for people to figure it out.

Not at all! I won't be telling anyone I've gone into labor until after he is born either. I want to make sure everything is okay & that he's safe & healthy before we let the news out. Also I never even considered anyone but my husband to be in the room.

Nope, not at all selfish. You are the one having the baby, you are the patient, you make the decisions. That's just how it works.

Not selfish at all! My husband was the only person in the room with me and the only people who knew I was in labor was him, both sets of parents and our siblings. We waited at least a few hours to let them visit and didn't have anyone else visit until we got home. Everyone is different and you have to do what is best for you, your husband and baby. I'm so glad we did things the way we did and plan to do it that way with future babies.
