How do you know what birth control is right for you?

I've been with my boyfriend for the a few months now and we almost always use condoms if not he just pulls out but I just think I should take some birth control just to be safe but I hate that the hormones sometimes don't react well to your body.      Is every pill different or are they all the same? My friends have told me to go to planned parenthood but I feel like they give you the most cheapest pills that has a lot of side effects! I don't know tell me your experience ladies I need help!
