A Word on Words

T
I absolutely love that we can have discussions about trans individuals, like even if I disagree with some of y'all the fact that we're at least acknowledging the trans community is just - it's brilliant.
.
This being said, I'm gonna help y'all talk about trans people more respectfully, because some of you are unintentionally really whack with your language. So let's start a conversation  about it!
.
I've seen a lot of people refer to transgender people as "transgenders" and honestly this is a bit of a UFO because I'm gonna tell you why that pisses me off😉
.
Do you see me up in the joint saying "so what up with blinds, like why can't they see?"
Or
"Ayyy cisgenders why are you so afraid of us?"
Or
"Whites* man they are something else."
.
*people do say this actually and they SHOULDN'T because people are more than their labels. Fact.
.
People are first and foremost PEOPLE. Fact.
.
So, we say
Transgender PEOPLE
White PEOPLE
Blind PEOPLE
Cisgender PEOPLE
.
Ya feelin' me?
And it is a mouth full, I know, but you have options!:
Trans people
Trans folk
Transgender individuals
Transgender folk
Those in the trans community
Trans individuals
trans hotties*
Humans
People
Men
Women
Trans men
Trans women
Nonbinary individuals
Nonbinary folk
.
(*aka me)
So try and keep this in mind in further conversation if you can:)
and to make this a discussion : what are some challenges you face when speaking about/to the trans community or people in the trans community? Shall we chat about pronouns? Any other word/phrase questions you have?
