Real life CATFISH?

Question

Just watching an episode of the MTV show Catfish. It where people seek help from Nev when they feel like the person they're talking to online is not who they say they are. I'm just curious to know if this has happened to anyone before on here! Or.... If YOU were the catfish 😱 tell us about the experience!

I will never understand why people are so shocked that people they talk to online aren't who the say they are..

I've had a few people steal my photos to catfish other people. They got into serious relationships using my pictures, and a few people confronted me, and I had to show them I was me, and whoever the other person was stole my pictures.

My real question is, why is it called Catfishing?

I've met people from online in real life, just as friends. Most didn't look like ANYTHING in their picture, but it didn't matter because I was just their friend and they were still the same person (personality wise) I spoke to online. This was before Skype and FaceTime, and only saw pictures. I did end up meeting my SO online and he actually looked muuuuch better in person than the pics.

I have never catfished anyone or been catfished. I've been in a committed relationship for almost 5 years so I don't try and meet people online. But before I met my SO, I was too terrified to start a relationship with someone online let alone ever meet the person. I was even paranoid to hang out with someone even if a friend of mine or somebody I actually knew, was friends with this person.  I'm just crazy and I assumed everyone was an online predator and it would never be who they actually said they were. I guess I watched too much How to Catch a Predator lol.

My friend catfished my ex. Told her that he was single and even sent her a picture of his dick.
I catfished on a virtual world but never used pictures of anyone. This was like when I was 10 with a friend. 
Now I always Skype/FaceTime with people who I meet online. Can't be too careful.

I met a strange guy in a place called chatrealms like 8+ yrs ago. We "dated" on the internet, our characters did too. I've always wanted to know if he was who he said he was. Never saw many pictures, none of a full on face either! He said he lives and England and I am in the States. I'd love if the show did international episodes!

I was a catfish once to figure out if someone was real or not lol but I never lead anyone on like on the show. I was however catfishes 2 years ago. It was awful and I didn't see it coming. U gotta be careful out there

Both for me I've catfished people in high school before it was even a thing. And I have been catfished and stalked multiple times.
