Do you rinse your mouth with water after brushing your teeth?

This stemmed from another question about brushing your teeth, but I noticed the amount of people that do this. I had no idea it was actually a thing. My dentist tells me to leave the toothpaste on my teeth after spitting.

I was always told to rinse since you're not supposed to swallow it.  Plus it tastes disgusting and I want that out asap.

Yeah, I feel like I've brushed all the gross stuff about and then am leaving it in there if I don't rinse. I follow with mouthwash.

If your local city water has fluoride added, then your teeth doesn't need to soak in toothpaste.

I've never been told not to rinse by a dentist or hygienist - I remember getting a brushing and flossing lesson from a hygienist when I was younger and she had me rinse. I usually rinse several times - the type of fluoride in my toothpaste makes my cheeks and gums manky if it isn't properly rinsed. 
One thing I learned recently from a dentist is that you should brush your teeth before eating in the morning - I always thought it was best to brush after eating but she said that was wrong.

I make my own toothpaste, so I don't have to worry about ingesting any harmful chemicals. However, I still rinse with water afterwards. Spitting the toothpaste out just isn't enough, I feel like all the stuff I brushed off my teeth is still sitting around my mouth unless I rinse.

I can't believe people say they rinse it out. That makes using fluoride semi pointless. People are trying to make you sound stupid by saying you shouldn't swallow the toothpaste lol I think they are insinuating that you save it in your mouth an swallow 😐 anyone reading this, that is definitely not what she is saying. Rinsing is not recommended by professionals. If you do, it should be with a mouthwash that contains fluoride.

Soo, you... Just.. Eat the toothpaste after brushing teeth?.. Um, my relative is a dentist and I never ever heard to leave toothpaste in your mouth...

I hate the taste of toothpaste. I always have. I hate it so much i usually gag when I brush my teeth. I've even thrown up before because it is SO so gross.

So yeah I rinse it off. I can't even imagine walking around with the taste in my mouth for an hour. Kill me, it'll be faster.

It actually says on toothpaste 'if swallowed contact your doctor'. If you consumed a tube of toothpaste you would die - that's how harmful it can be. Always wash your mouth out and try to use one that doesn't contain all the chemical additives if possible
