Cycle lengths?

I just finished reading a website about  opks (I'm going to start using them this upcoming cycle). On the site it said a cycle length is from the start of your last period to the day BEFORE your next period. I've always thought it was from the starting day of your last period to the starting day of the next, not the day before the starting day. So what is it? Before or ON the day of the of your next period
