Husband first? How??

Question

Ladies who put the husband before your children; how do you do that?? I have a four month old and can't fathom it but know that it's probably a good thing. I know I need to nurture my marriage, but my child takes precedence.

It's not like if your house was on fire, who would you save first. It's more like, your husband had to work late 2 weeks in a row, and even though baby is still young and you're not crazy about not being with them, you send baby to the grandparents house anyways, so your hubby can decompress and you two can reconnect. It's not life or death, it's just recognizing your partner has needs and trying to fulfill them. Now if I was terrified of sending my child to her grandparents house, my husband would never have even thought to ask me, and before she went, he said if I became too overwhelmed, we'd go get her immediately, so it's all about your relationship with your partner. He knows and respects my needs, and I know and respect his.

We we decided to ttc we had a long talk not about putting him first but always choosing us and putting our relationship first. 
Kids grow up and leave- the sun doesn't rise and set over them (no matter how much your heart feels for them.) 
We are in love with 'Buttonwillow' who is due in Sept but we have decided that our relationship comes first. That mean making sure we have time for one another and staying intimate even after she's here. 
We will send her to grandmas often, we will take trips without her, we will continue to live, learn, grow and connect with eachother in ways that respect and honor our autonomy. 
It won't always be easy but the most important things is that at the end of the day, when she is grown and gone, we want to be happy together and we want Buttonwillow to see what a healthy, loving partnership is.

"Husband first" doesn't mean you actually put your spouse before your child. It just means continuing to put effort and care into your relationship. Raising children can be so overwhelming that couples stop taking time for each other, especially when the kids are small.

My partner comes first, meaning, as the other ladies described, date nights have priority over other activities. I make sure he feels that we aren't business partners, but romantic partners - love notes, I might bake or cook a favorite food - things like that. We still have sex even when I'm dead tired. It comes with practice, but my ability to be a good mother means nothing if I can't be a good partner.

My marriage takes precedence and here is why. I want my kids to grow up in a household with both of parents showing each other respect and love instead of animosity until the day of separation. If my marriage is happy my family is happy. People confuse that with not caring for my children, and that's not the case at all. I can still be an amazing mom and do everything right while putting my marriage first. Providing a stable home to my kids come first, so in a way, they do come first.

Imo that means to nuture your relationship with your SO so you have a good relationship and its a good thing for your kids to see a healthy relationship. It doesnt mean your kid is neglected. There are times when you need to focus on your relationship because relationships are work they dont just happen and stay perfect, its work. 
You have to balance both out and focus on what is need at specific times. Its not fair to neglect your SO because of your child and its not fair to neglect your child because of your SO. You want your child to grow learning how to be in a healthy relationship and that starts with showing them yourself how to do that.

For the love of all things good, it does not mean that your child is neglected while your husband does f*ck all at the house. It means that you continue to nurture your relationship with your husband regardless. If you need to put the kids to bed early one night so you can have some alone time with your husband, then do it. If you need to have a regular date night regardless of if your daughter wants to go to the movies that night, than do it. If you and your hubby want to go on vacation without the kids, than do it. That's what putting your husband first means. This is why so many families end up in divorce, spouses forget one another in the process of being parents. We aren't JUST parents. We're  lovers, friends, coworkers and so much more. Don't forget who you are in the process, and more importantly, don't put your spouse last. If it wasn't for them you wouldn't even have your baby.

Find a babysitter and go on a date. You can't always put your child first and you can't always put your husband first. You have to be able to find a balance or your relationship can take a toll. And your husband has to understand that now that you have a baby your relationship will change some, but it doesn't mean it changes for the bad. Finding some time every once in a while to be just a wife and husband and not a mother and father is important for your relationship and you sanity. You can do it!!! Good luck!!!
