Membrane sweeps that common?

I didn't make it this far with my first delivered at 36 weeks so I'm not familiar with membrane sweeps. It seems like a lot of doctors do it, is it something you request or something they just do?

I requested mine. Doctors can't just do it without telling you and you can definitely decline it if you decide you don't want one.

They normally suggest to do it when you get close to your due date to help speed things along. I'm getting it done at 49wks
