Is dress code a good idea in schools?

I go to a school where some girls get in trouble for dress code just because they are larger... even though they are not breaking dress code...

I think it is to a degree. I don't believe a girl in leggings and an oversized shirt should be sent home for "being a distraction to boys", when some girls wear practically nothing. I think that the boys should be reprimanded for gawking at the girls, not send the girl home. That's ridiculous and sexist. I know plenty of boys were distracting to me in school and they were never sent home.

I think it's often taken too far. Particularly in regards to the fact that dress codes tend to address girls more than boys.

And oftentimes the rules are silly. There's nothing inappropriate about girls' shoulders or collar bones. There's also nothing wrong with leggings.

And no person should have to get down on their knees to prove they are within the limits of a dress code.

I think uniforms should be required at all schools.

I wore a uniform at my private school and there was no worrying about getting in trouble or being picked on for not having the latest fashion or what not

When going to school you should be able to dress how you want. To an extent. This is school your are there to learn. There's no need to have your boobs out ass out at school. Same with guys no need to have your ass hanging out or wearing innapproproite clothing referencing drugs or gangs. Dress for the occasion

I remember when I was working we had casual dress day every Friday where we could wear whatever we wanted. One day I wore leggings with a long shirt and got in heaps of trouble about it but a quite larger set woman wore leggings almost everyday and no one ever said anything? I seriously think all workplaces and schools should just do uniform only everyday so much easier!

My,son's middle school has uniforms, I thought it was lame at first but I like it now, it's super easy for him and all the kids wear the same thing besides shoes. So no one gets picked on for their clothes and kids can't dress like gang members, girls can't wear the super short shorts or shirts. I like it They can wear the school shirt, a school vest, or the school hoodies. Then their pants just have to be in good repair with no holes or writing on them or designs. Black, khaki, blue, blue jeans.

In my experience, schools don't enforce a dress code on girls because "it's distracting to the boys". There are dress codes for all students because they need to moderate what teens and preteen a wear. Because they will push their limits and compete with each other to an unhealthy extent. In my high school, neither boys nor girls were allowed to wear short shorts, tank tops, deep v necks, etc. But do you know who was constantly pushing the issue? Girls. And they act like they are being picked on but the reality is nope, they just aren't being allowed to do whatever the want. And I can guarantee that girls are more distracted by what other girls are wearing than boys are

My school tried to give us uniforms. But no one listened. And they couldn't suspend the whole school, So they gave up. Even in uniform, people will find a way to stand out.

I'm a vice principal. I hate dress codes. They are way more restrictive of young women than young men and enforcement is a giant waste of time.

I used to get so pissy with my principals. It wasn't my fault I had DDs in middle school with a small frame so pretty much anything I wore would break dress code but then there were chicks who didn't hit puberty yet that were able to wear deeper plunging necklines and skimpier clothing.

I don't think it works and teenage boys will be pervs no matter wtf you make your students wear.
