Trying cloth diapers for the first time ?

I would love to try cloth diapers but I had no idea they could be kinda expensive  (I know they are cheaper in the long run compared to disposables).

If I wanted to give it a try, what would you recommend as the minimum # to start with? I was thinking 3 diapers- too few? Also any recs on brands?

Bumgenuis are my favorite all cloth diapers. I found for me Gdiaper hybrids are my absolute favorite diapers..... You can get a newborn started kit of Gdiapers on Jet.com with a 15% off coupon. Totally worth it!

I use gdiapers. The diaper cover I have two and the inserts I have 12. I change diapers about every 2 hours. Check out fluffloveuniversity.com as well to make sure yourdetergent is ok to use on them and any other useful info with having cloth diapers.

Alva diapers are pretty cheap! I have 6 of them already. Amazon has some good deals as well.
I'm planning to use pre-folds and covers for when she is a newborn. 36 pre-folds and 5-6 covers. 
Then one size after, planning to have at least 20! I'm buying a couple with each paycheck to spread it out.

We will be using cloth diapers, but disposables for the 1st month to get the swing of things. After lots of research we decided on Grovia's hybrid version. There's so many choices out there but this systems liners snap in, meaning if the shell isn't soiled you can just use a new liner. Figured this is the lowest maintenance for us personally.

This is our first baby and we are doing cloth as well. I have been buying a few here and there when I find a special or good deal. The cheapest way to CD I think are flats or prefolds and covers. You can get a pack of 12 for I think $15 on Amazon. You can even use flour sacks from your grocery department I've heard. You just need a snappi to hold the flats together and then put a waterproof cover over it. Covers can be as low as $6
All in ones/all in twos I find are most  expensive but are the closest to disposable diapers. 
I have tried not to commit to a style or brand just yet. We have about ten in our stash so far. 3 covers, 1 hybrid, 1 all in one and 5 pocket. I haven't gotten to test them out obviously but I  think o will prefer the pocket style. I am starting to favor BumGenius pocket and fluffybunnz. I've also put cloth and cloth supplies on my registries.

We are having child #4 in May and he will be the guinea pig for cloth diapers for us. I have never used them before, but we are trying it out. In my area there is a large Facebook community and some places will even donate a starter kits to someone new to the community.

I have picked up a couple of different brands but a lot of moms have suggested Bum Genius to me so we have a few of those and a couple of different brands as well.
