I think it's kind of BS honestly. In Florida, the minimum wage is $8.05 and $5.03 for "tipped employees". As if the company can't pay an extra $3... Lol.

I made $2.13 hourly at an UPPER scale restaurant here in Texas. I would've killed for $5 and tips! Even at a nicer place I got stiffed on $100 tabs for not doing anything wrong, just served some cheap ass people. So it's okay to spend $100 between the two of you but you won't tip the server who busted their ass for you? Messed up. 
Restaurants need to pay servers better and do away with the social norm of tipping. Tipping should only be for above and beyond service rather than the basis of a server's wage. Too many people are too inconsiderate to rely on tipping. PLUS waiters have to tip out at the end of the night and when you stiff a waiter it hurts them even more. Tip out is based on how much product you SELL, not how many tips you earn. So I would sell $500+ worth of food a night which means I had to max tip out at $35 from my tip pool. If I was stiffed every table or tipped extremely low, I would be forced to pay my tip out from my own pocket. If that's not messed up I don't know what is.

We need to just get rid of tipping. Anyone defined as an employee should get the normal state/fed minimum wage, and if someone goes above & beyond with their service, they will likely get a nice tip from generous people.

Hell no. Most tip positions make $4 dollars or less. It's already less than minimum and plus mothef*ckers can be stingy with tips. So in my opinion, all tipped employed should be making AT LEAST minimum wage.

When I was a server. I was making $2.15/hr. It was rare to get a tip.

In Indiana, waiters and waitress only make 3 dollars and some change in hourly wages.  While regular minimum wage is $7.25.

Wherever i have lived there has been no different minimum for servers. They get paid at least the state minimum plus tips, so i dont feel the need to tip for averAge service.

If everyone had the same minimum wage, the expectation of tips should change drastically-you would really have to earn any amount of tip, and a "good" tip would be a different percentage. So I voted "yes" assuming the current tip system would stay in place, but if the expectations would change for tips then I wouldn't mind either way.

Even if I get crummy service, I tip at least 15% since I know there is a different minimum wage, and over 20 for good service. I wouldn't leave a tip for crummy service if the worker made normal minimum wage.
