Do gynecology exams hurt...?

I'm about to start birth control but I'm scared to get an exam cause I heard they stretch you out down there with plates and I'm scared of it hurting cause I can't stretch that far.

No, it doesn't hurt. If you get scared it will because you're tense. You have to relax and let everything happen. They're the professionals and they know what they're doing and what to do so they don't hurt you. Just relax ☺

They stretch with a speculum, but no longer than a few minutes. It can be uncomfortable but not painful.

Didn't hurt with me. A little uncomfortable for about a minute after the speculum was inserted. Mainly because the speculum was ice cold. Just felt a little pressure. Also I was told I was pregnant at that time when I was 17. Had a female gyno so it was more compassionate to my feelings during the exam.

Some people they do, some don't. I typically have pain from the speculum but I find the doctors mannerisms help. How much they cut their nails, how fast and rough they are, etc. Then my sister has never experienced any pain, she said.

If it does hurt it's not agony it's just sharp bursts. Or that's my experience. Good luck and just remember it doesn't last long.
