Induced because of diabetes?

Question

So my OBGYN said I need to be induced at 38w (I'm 37w now) because I have diabetes and he doesn't want to risk my baby's health. I have had a healthy pregnancy with no complications. I am labeled high risk because I had uncontrolled diabetes before having gastric bypass 25 months ago that went away afterwards. I only take 20units of low dosage insulin at bedtime. My sugar levels have been perfect throughout the pregnancy. My baby is at the 57% tile in this week's growth scan. He said that it doesn't matter if my bllod sugar is controlled because anyone who has diabetes is induced at 38 weeks.

Of course I want what's best for my baby and if I have to be induced then let it be. But has anyone been told this? Also, if you've been induced did you end up having a c-section? My baby has been and still is head down since 4 weeks ago so I would love to have a vaginal birth but I've heard that the majority of women who are induced end up having a c-section 😟.

I have gestational diabetes so they are going to induce me at 38 weeks. Diabetes makes the placenta age quickly and I think they don't want problems with that.

My doctor said if my levels are not doing good I'll be induced at 39weeks but if everything is looking awesome he would say I could go until 40

That sounds weird to me. My midwives said that they are treating me like a normal patient until 41 weeks because my sugars have been so well managed with just diet/exercise. They told me that at my 37+5 appt. I mean its gestational diabetes so maybe that's what makes it different. But they don't want to induce me at all unless I hit 41 weeks or movement decreases or something like that. And my girl is in 54th percentile for growth so we are pretty similar on that front.

Getting induced doesn't mean you'll have a c section! I was induced with my first and all went well. Yes there are many scary stories out there about it, but it's not a guarantee going either way.

That is not what I have seen as the recommendations. I think you should be able to look up ACOG recommendations on diabetes and inductions on google and find the official position from the ACOG. Uncontrolled diabetes might be a reason for induction, as might an unusually large baby (looking like 11 pounds or over on the ultrasound). But I don't think a normal sized baby and controlled diabetes are indications for an induction. Like I said, I'm not certain, so look up what the ACOG recommends.

I'm getting induced at 39 due to GD. But my baby is over 97th percentile. They caught the diabetes too late.

Don't let your doctor induce you at 38 weeks, that sounds like BS to me. I had GD with my first and I chose to induce at 39 weeks, but my doctor did not say I had to induce early because of the GD. I also have GD with this pregnancy, and baby is not going to be induced early. Gestational diabetes is NOT a reason to induce early unless you have out of control blood sugar or there is a problem with your placenta. Please look up the current recommendations as previous poster said. Sounds like your doctor would like the added convenience of inducing you early and your baby may not be ready!

I have GD but have always had good blood sugar numbers from my diet. I am scheduled to have an induction two days after my due date because my doctor didn't want me to go too far past my due date with GD. She said if my BS wasn't controlled, I'd be induced between 37-38 weeks. Hope I got on my own anyway. Currently 37w4days

I was diagnosed with GD am currently 38+6 and my doc hasn't even mentioned inducing. My blood sugar numbers were also perfect throughout whole pregnancy. But I also never wound up taking insulin so I'm not sure if this could cause a discrepancy or not.

Im diabetic as well, but my doctor will not induce me till 39 weeks because babies tend to not mature lungs as soon. I take 60 of insulin morning and nights. I do hope she comes without induction tho. Ill be 38 on sunday so hoping she will come naturally
