Tdap shot for family?

My sister is wanting to come visit and stay with me after the born is born but doesn't want to get the tdap shot.  The doctor told me if she wants to stay with us and doesn't get the shot she has to wait at least six months after the baby is born until the baby gets its own shot.  When I told her she had to wait six months she got really upset.  Am I in the wrong for asking her to wait six months?  I respect that she doesn't want to get the shot but I feel she should wait until the Doctor says it's okay.  Am I just being overprotective?

If you want to spend anything more than a few hours with my babe after he's born then you better get the shot.  Better to be safe than sorry.

First of all this is not meant to be rude in any way....

However it is not up to your doctor to tell her when she can see the baby. It's your choice. And by You getting the tdap shot (while pregnant) if you have decided to do so, roughly only 25% or less of that immunity is spread to your baby. So if your child is around ANYONE who isn't immunized there is a risk. Even going to Walmart or someplace public. While your baby will be closer to your sister for cuddles, etc. no matter what your child has a risk.

I'd let her visit, I'm not making my family get it. I work at a daycare and none of the workers have to get it (at any daycare I've worked at) and many of the babies start at 6 weeks. My husband and I will be getting it but I'm not forcing anyone else to

I don't know why people fight getting this shot so much, you can get it from Walgreens and it's not expensive even if you don't have insurance. Plus if they are young and have attended a public university in the last few years they have had a booster to attend.

I will be getting it, and I am making my husband get it. I have already mentioned it to our parents and no one is on board unfortunately. I'm not sure what to do about it

No, your job is to be overprotective! Imagine if she had whooping cough and passed it to your baby? Babies have died from whooping couch! Either she gets the vaccine or she doesn't come! Period!

I'm having any family member who wants to hold the baby get it if they can - my husband and I are getting it in April/May around my 32 week mark, my parents are already updated on it, and my husband is asking his parents after we get it (he feels weird asking them before he has even gotten it).

There have been cases of Pertussis in my area recently so I want to be extra cautious because it's a deadly disease.

If you think she should get it and you and your husband are getting it, then she should respect it and get it too if she wants to take care of your newborn. Remember that newborns have no immunities other than the ones they get from their mother. Its just a shot, it's not going to kill her, but if she doesn't get it and passes it to the baby then what now?
