Step children and titles

What is your title with your step children? My husband and I both had young children when we met, my daughter has always called him dad because of her age and the fact that was what her brother calls him, but his son always called me "friend" because that's what his dad first referred to me as and it stuck. We always knew he would grow out of it but he's began to call me mom instead.
