Getting enough milk?

FTM and I'm wondering what are some signs that baby is getting enough Breastmilk.

I nursed two already.  I suppose I felt they were satisfied by the sweet look on their face after a meal. Or the heavy sleep after. Or by changing nappies with pee n poo. If baby isn't pooping a lot I wouldn't worry as long as she is not fussy. Some babies poop a lot. Some don't at first. Either way some babes need to nurse a lot more than others for various different reasons. Measuring formula makes some people feel better. But really it's not necessary. Happiest babies eat on demand. Also look for rooting. Not crying. Feed baby whenever his head moves toward your breasts.

As long as baby is having good wet and poopy diapers he/she is fine! It is too often that I have a FTM come in for a consultation and Worry that baby isn't getting enough. Their stomachs are SUPER small right now and do not need more than an oz to eat for the first few days! After a couple of weeks, they may eat up to 2oz and so on so forth! Believe in your body!

I use a pump sometimes when my breasts feel painful and he's not hungry. That's a good way to measure too. I have a freezer full of milk now lol

At least 6 wet/dirty diapers a day. Do not use pumping to measure, it is not accurate. A baby can get way more by nursing directly than a pump will ever be able to pull out. As long as baby is satisfied after a feed and having enough dirty diapers, all is well. You really don't need to know exact amounts, as it's irrelevant as long as baby feels full.

Always remember that babies nurse more during growth spurts, when they want to boost your supply (bf is supply and demand), or sometimes just for comfort. Frequent nursing is very normal. If weight gain is fine, all is the well.

Currently nursing my second, he's 2 months old and usually only eats for 5-10 mins then he's done. He gets what he needs, then he's good lol. And he's a chunker! I don't leak, I don't get engorged anymore, and he sleeps all night. Your milk will regulate to what the baby needs, which is good. Kellymom.com  is great for nursing info.
