UK early scans?

Question

I just had my first scan at 11+3w... It was an emergency scan after bleeding and I've suffered a miscarriage. It's heartbreaking! They believe baby must've stopped growing 5/6weeks ago... I hate that in the UK we don't have earlier scans! 
I was due to have my first at 12+3... I think something needs to be done to allow women to have scans early on at 8 weeks during first check up as baby will have a heartbeat by then and we can check size etc.

Me and my partner are so devastated!😔😓
Does anyone know if it's possible to have private scans early or request them through the NHS, we want to try again but waiting 12 weeks is so difficult!

In the UK That's how it works unfortunately unless you've had previous miscarriages/ectopic/bleeding - so obviously without you having any history then they wouldn't of scanned you early. That being said if you do fall pregnant again Alls you need to do is call your hospitals EARLY PREGNANCY UNIT explain what had happened before and request an early scan. I've had a previous misscarriage and ectopic and both my sons I had to have 4 early scans with both to make sure they was growing in the correct place. Good luck 😘💙

I think you can have early private scan.

NHS wouldn't scan you unless you're at least 12 weeks.

However, if you have spotting / cramps, they will scan you. I had a scan at 5w (twice), 7w, 10w, 12w and 20w, because initially I was spotting and had some cramps. I got more scans than usual because I ovulated later..

I'm sorry for your loss, of course you can have a private scan when you would like! We had ours at 6 weeks and 3 days and it was amazing, they can tell so much from then and cancel so much out already by this point! Good luck for the future x

I have early scans at 8 weeks on the NHS but that is down to the problems I had with my daughter that lead her to be stillborn. You can have private scans, I think most places offer them from 7 weeks.

With each of my pregnancys ive had early scans I had one at 8 weeks with my first. 9 weeks with my second and 5/6 weeks with this one and I have another one tomorrow to find out how far on I actually am. I just asked when I went for the appointment if I could get one to calm my nerves, my 2nd baby was stillborn at 33weeks so this pregnancy I will get around 6/8 scans which is good and I'm
Actually surprised that they are willing to do that. Also get to go hear the heartbeat every 2 weeks!

I miscarried twins in October and am now 11+4 pregnant. I called my EPU to ask for an early scan as I was really anxious and it was around the time id actually lost the twins (it was a missed miscarriage. I was meant to be 10 weeks but both babies had not grown past 5 weeks) and I was told that unless you have two miscarriages you will not be offered an early scan. I'm now a week away from my 12 week scan and getting more anxious/excited by the day! X

I paid for private scans at 7 weeks & 10+4 for reassurance this pregnancy after a previous miscarriage. The NHS would not give me a scan earlier than the normal 12 week scan. The private ones were worth every penny for the reassurance they gave me.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You can have a private scan from 6 weeks, you'd have to pay though. Now you've had a miscarriage the early pregnancy unit at your hospital should offer you an early scan around 7-8 weeks when you're next pregnant. It seems to differ area to area though. Mine were amazing. I've just had my little boy after 3 miscarriages & in his pregnancy they scanned me every 2 weeks from 6 weeks in the first trimester. You've just got to be a bit pushy with them sometimes. Good luck! X
