Nursing and taking pain pills .. I just just had my baby c section they gave me pain killers and antibiotics but I'm nursing and scared to take my pain pills but I'm in so much pain. What do you think ?

You ABSOLUTELY have to continue with your pain meds! If you don't, the pain will ruin everything. Doctors prescribe those for a reason, and pain after c-section is not something you can just power through. I've had a 3rd degree tear and have two take three types of pain killers. If I forget, my pain becomes too strong and takes away all the joy from taking care of my baby. I have asked my doctors specifically about taking all these meds while breastfeeding and they said it was perfectly compatible and strongly recommended. Good luck!!

The doctors wouldn't prescribe you something if it were going to interfere with nursing or the baby's health. I had a c section and they give Percocet. It's fine to take the prescribed medication as prescribed. What WILL interfere with nursing is being in so much pain that you can't hold your baby against you. Take your meds.

You can take your pain meds. They might just make your baby sleepy. I've done this exact thing four times. It's ok. Take your pain meds. Healing from c-sections is hard enough to try to do it without pain meds.

I thought the same thing!!! But meds they give you are okay with breastmilk. I didn't take my meds for a couple of days and I paid the price, I HURT so bad!!! Call your doctor if you are unsure, but they won't give you anything that would hurt the baby

I always asked the doctors and nurses before taking anything. They always said that the baby will only get SMALL amounts of the meds. Not enough to hurt the baby. They won't give you anything that will hurt the baby. It's best to stay on schedule with your medicine.

I would think it would be ok if the doctor who gave them to you knew you were breast feeding.

I'd be careful, I was prescribed Percocet last May with my csection it built up literally within 24 hours my son was so sedated I had to give him a cool bath just to feed him.  I switched after 3 doses of meds (and the 2 doses of endocet post section in hospital) to bottle feeding while I still pumped.  It took my son 3 solid days to start to wear off.  He also didn't void for 24 hours which was caused by over sedation.  It may just be how it reacted in me, maybe not though.  I was very thankful that I'm a nurse and knew what signs to look for, but was definitely a scary time when you've just had a baby!!
