GoFundMe for College Tuition?

I logged onto my Facebook a few minutes ago, and the first thing that came across my screen was a post from a girl I know. She was advertising her GoFundMe account hoping that people would donate money to her so that she could get college tuition money. This girl works, lives with her parents and most likely would qualify for financial aid due to her circumstances. She claims "my ex-boyfriend emptied my savings account, so now I have no money to pay for college this next semester". Do you think this is kind of tacky, or is it just me? I get that college is expensive, but don't you think there are better ways to go about getting tuition money?
