Tattoo removed?

Has anyone had a tattoo removed by laser? I get it started next week and I'm nervous!! Does it hurt wiser than the tattoo? Does it look "gross" for a while afterwards?

I've had 11 treatments for a tattoo I got 8 years ago on my spine. The pain is not fun, but my doc numbs me and the whole appointment is over in 15 min.  I stopped treatments while pregnant, but will resume after baby. I'd say tattoo is 90% faded right now

My SO tried to have a tattoo removed when he was younger, after 3 or so painful sessions all it did was slightly fade it...after that he said screw it and just left it alone.

I haven't had any removed because I wouldn't but yes it's more painful. to remove the pigment the Laser burns the pigment away, be warned it can smell but they'll usually use an ice ball prior to lasering the area or use a constant small jet of cold air. It will look a bit gross afterwards but follow the aftercare instruction that they give you
