ChildSupport- Be Real and Be Honest Moms and Dads; is $1000 a month too much for child support of a baby?

Just curious- I'm a working mother of a 9-5 job.  I cover all my kids insurance through my job and I have bought everything for my newborn. Me and the father are not working out and we decided to split when our lease ends. Childcare alone is about 1200-1400 full time in my state for a new baby.

Am I being harsh by asking for 1k a month support our child. Remember I cover insurance, will put a roof over our head, care, buy food, shelter everything a parent should do. He will live an hour away and possibly see the baby every other weekend.

Thoughts? Please no rude comments.

I think it depends on the situation and how much the father makes. My sister gets 1600 a month for two kids but the father also makes really good money. Child support is usually a certain percentage of the fathers wages

Nope not to much. He should be responsible for at least half of all child expenses, including daycare clothing and health insurance. Currently dealing with child support from my ex and the courts ordered me 891 a month plus 10% back pay which totaled out to be about 1100 a month which was exactly half of what I was currently spending on providing the necessities for my child.

Lol yeah. I only get 130 a month for my 4 year old. I don't need his money I make all the money for my kids. I only get it cuz his dumb ass tried to take me to court so he could get money from me lol

truthfully I think that is absured. If you both CHOSE to split idk why he would pay so much. He also has to pay for his own insurance,  house, utilities, clothes, food etc ..... Unless be makes a crap load of money. If he makes enough to pay that and still support himself than no it's not to much.

If you are agreeing support with him directly it doesn't have to be a certain percentage of income. That only comes into play if you go through the courts.

It's only acceptable if half of day care is $700.  If daycare was less, I'd say it's not his responsibility to pay your bills, he has to have a place for the child as well...regardless of how often he has them.

Regardless of how much you ask for the judge will base it off or his income and yours,  expenses ect.  I only get $480/month for 2 kids.

How much does he make?
I don't think 1k is too much to ask a month. My cousins ex pays for daycare for their child which is about 1k a month and that's the only thing he pays for and they have a similar visitation schedule as the one you described. Is he throwing a fit about it? If my husband and I ever split I would expect him to pay for half of everything which would be at least 1k a month, but he could also probably afford that.

It needs to be in proportion to what the parent paying support is making.
