How to know when to go to hospital?

So I live about an hour drive from the hospital. How far apart should my contractions be apart, given my distance, to leave for the hospital?

You need to ask your doctor this. Generally you need to call when you have 3 strong ones in 10 minutes but this may be different with the distance. And everyone professes at a different rate

I'm in this same situation! My SIL waited until her contractions were 5 min apart and almost had my nephew on the side of the highway. If her husband didn't buzz down it doing 90 and refuse to pull over when the stage trooper tried to, they wouldn't have made it.

After their experience, I told my husband we're going to the city the hospital is in as soon as my contractions start and will find something to do. Go to the mall and walk, whatever. If need be, we'll get a hotel room across from the hospital. 😂 I'd rather not drive like a maniac to get there in time!

I asked my midwife this at my last appointment and she said to come in when my contractions are 5 minutes apart for at least an hour. She also said to monitor that they are increasing in intensity and are still present after changing positions, drinking water, etc. She DID say that in the event my water breaks I need to get to the hospital right away (I am GBS positive and will need an IV of antibiotics upon arrival).
