To the teens starting professional jobs.
I moved to a city from a small town eight months ago. I graduated college last year, with honours, lived on my own, made my own money or got a student loan, all before I turned 19. I got turned away from 107 jobs in that eight months because I was young and still a teenager (birthday in july).
I went to a job interview for a government job about 2 weeks ago, a dietary aid in a home. I wore leggings with a classy shirt and leather boots. I looks casual but presentable. I smiled my entire interview, shook hands, sat up straight, I did my very best.
I got the job that 30+ other older adults applied for. After 107 different people telling me I'm too young, I don't have enough experience, I'm not qualified (even though I'm certified with all major health food and safety requirements), I wasn't good enough.
I just finished my training. Just because you are young dosent mean that you can give up. Prove them wrong. Make them see what you can be. Don't mope around when you get turned down, stand up and make everyone aware of how great you are. I now get paid 17$ an hour, double on emergency calls, and I've been told I have the most potential of all the new employees.
So this is for the younger people about to give up like I did. About to lower their standards and forget about a dream job in a dream place. Don't throw in the towel. Just some encouragement for the day.
