Isn't a SAHM considered employed?

Question

After a check in with the hospital I noticed my paperwork listed me as unemployed- I'm newly transitioning to be a SAHM from being a full time executive. I guess seeing unemployed caught me off guard ! Is that the normal listing for SAHM?

Pretty much. Unless you're a SAHM that has an income from a work at home job.

It's normal here! I'm listed as "unemployed" even though they know I'm a stay at home mom. I don't have an income producing job so therefore I am technically unemployed.

Homemaker is a common notation for a SAHM, but like these ladies said, because you're not making an income, you're unemployed. I had the same experience in coming home to take care of my son. I was was making good money and high up in the company I worked for. 
I also had, and sometimes still have, a hard time feeling like I don't contribute just because I don't bring in money. 
My husband continues to tell me how much I do contribute and not to worry about the money.
It's a harder adjustment than I anticipated. I hope your adjustment comes quickly and easier than mine has!

Yes it's normal. Being a stay at home mom technically means unemployed. If you're not claiming any income on taxes or filing any payment, you're unemployed. Most places I've done paperwork at, have an other column or sometimes even a "homemaker" option. But technically speaking, they consider it not a "real job". Though I think most people who know anything about what SAHMs do, would agree it's a job in itself!
